Cardi B Won’t Talk to the NYPD About Reported Chokehold Incident: ‘You Guys Be Lying’

Cardi tells her side of the story during a recent interview, and explains why she hasn't given a statement to the cops.

It was about a week ago when Cardi B went to social media with a serious and scary claim. The 24-year-old rapper tweeted she had been put in a chokehold by a NYPD police officer; however, she didn’t provide many details and eventually deleted the post.

Several days later, NYPD officials expressed their doubts about Cardi’s claim, citing a lack of evidence, according to TMZ. Cardi said she refused to give a statement to authorities because, A. She “ain’t never talk to no 12 before,” and B. She doubts the officer would face any repercussions.

The “Bodak Yellow” artist explained this during an interview with Felisha Monet on WEDR 99 Jamz. And although she hasn’t gone to the cops with her side of the story, she made sure to break it down for the live audience.

Cardi said she was stuck in traffic with her cousin and ended up getting into an altercation with a motorist who hit her car mirror. She then got out of the car and began exchanging words with the man, admitting she was “no angel.” After threats were thrown around, she began hitting the man’s car and threw a bottle of water. Once the man got out of his vehicle, her cousin got involved.

“So now he’s gonna square up with my cousin—now this shit gonna get real,” she explained. “And out of nowhere, a motherfucker put me in a chokehold […] like a chicken wing. I couldn’t breathe and I couldn’t believe it, because there's two men that are about to square up, but you're so pussy you won't even hold back the men. You're gonna put the female in the chokehold."

Cardi then said she and her family have received calls and visits from the NYPD to provide a statement. They’re clearly wasting their time. Cardi said the NYPD told her mother that if the rapper didn’t provide a statement, their office would release one of their own: “The NYPD found no evidence of Cardi B’s claims.”

“How are you gonna find evidence when you don’t know what happened? You don’t know if it happened in the Bronx or Manhattan,” she said. “Don’t release something that you guys ‘haven’t found evidence,’ but you haven’t even talked to nobody. It’s just, like, you guys be lying. This is why I don’t talk to you guys, because you guys be lying. And I don’t fuck with y’all.”
