Watch Jay Z's 'Footnotes for Adnis' f/ Kevin Hart, Chris Rock and Will Smith

It includes a great story about Willow Smith.

Jay Z has shed more light on his complicated relationship with his dad.

Just days after he released the official music video for the 4:44 bonus track “Adnis,” Hov has dropped another “Footnotes” installment in which he and other male celebrities discuss parenthood and their connection to their fathers.

Jay spoke about the emotional stages he went through with his dad, Adnis Reeves. He admitted he felt a lot of anger towards his dad for being absent from his life. However, that feeling was eventually replaced by respect as he grew older.

“As an adult looking back, now I have a different perspective of it. I started thinking, 'Man, my dad married my mother at a time when everybody was leaving.' He tried,” Jay said in the clip. “My mom had two kids before him. She had four kids by 20. I was the youngest child. They were young. That don't check the box of what I thought. That don't check the box of somebody who wasn't shit. You married this woman with four kids and they was together for 11 years. Now the story gets different.”

The episode includes interviews with Chris Rock, Mack Wilds, DJ Khaled, Kevin Hart, and Mahershala Ali, the star of the “Adnis” music video. Will Smith also shared an amusing anecdote about his daughter Willow, who shaved her head so she could prematurely end the Whip My Hair Tour.

“I’m looking at that girl and I’m like, ‘Got it. I understand. You will not have this trouble out of me ever again. Let’s go baby, we can go,'” Smith said. “For me, it was that soldier that was pushing and wasn’t paying any attention to what was going on emotionally to this beautiful little creature in front of me.”

You can watch "Footnotes of Adnis" exclusively on Tidal.
