Playboi Carti and XXXTentacion bring their unique sonic stylings to the latest XXL Freshman Cypher, released Wednesday. Carti and XXXTentacion are joined by fellow XXL Freshman Class recruits Ugly God and MadeinTYO, with some reliably shrewd production from Sonny Digital.
Carti's verse keeps the playfulness of his blockbuster hit "Magnolia" front and center, referencing Ben Baller's jewelry and bragging that his "pockets on Rick Ross" in the Travis Satten-directed cypher's opening moments. After some hook-filled lines and interplay from MadeinTYO and Ugly God, XXXTentacion changes up the mood of the room entirely by ditching Sonny Digital's beat for a vocals-only delivery of some decidedly macabre lines:

XXXTentacion recently announced the postponement of his Revenge Tour. In a statement in June, X said the decision to postpone was due to the shooting of his cousin. Previously, the tour encountered a number of setbacks, including the alleged jumping of opener Wifisfuneral and an incident in which X punched an audience member.
Carti, meanwhile, just dropped the long-awaited video for "Magnolia" co-starring ASAP Rocky. The trippy visuals also include cameos from Nav and more, as well as some movie references you'll spot on the first viewing.
