The Take It Personal podcast frequently pays tribute to different aspects of hip-hop—rap from Philly, independent hip-hop, etc. But their most recent effort sets a new standard. The show's hosts—Philaflava, Kevlar, and DJ 360—put together an epic six-hour, two part mix to pay homage to the great producer DJ Premier.
The mega-mix contains tracks from Primo's duo Gang Starr, of course, as well as closely aligned acts like Jeru the Damaja and Freddie Foxxx. But it also tackles his work with Jay Z, Nas, Common, Ras Kass, Big L, and countless others. It contains plenty of classics like "DWYCK" and "N.Y. State of Mind," and sprinkles in plenty of rarities, collaborations, and even some interview footage.
So lace up your Timbs, put on your best Yankee fitted, say a quick "Guru, Rest in Peace," and listen to parts one and two below.
