Young Yizzy

Young Yizzy, the latest export from grime hotspot Lewisham, is today releasing his debut EP, This Is Life, via Samurai Sound. It's hard to believe this is the debut drop. All six tracks—including the more introspective title track—are densely-packed bars tempered with icy beats that come fully-formed and sure-footed.

What really stands out, though, are the nods to his grime forebears; subtle little references woven into thoroughly 2017 sounds. Tracks like "Buss" (assisted by Tuckz) and "Bodied On A Beat" in particular show us a young MC acutely aware of his grime history, with beats and flows that would be right at home in the classic Channel U days. "It's my first body of work and marks my place in the grime scene," the self-styled Grime Kid told us via email. "It speaks about my area and where I come from, and takes grime back to its old school days. People will learn about me and my story on This Is Life."

It's a bold opening release from the young MC. Let's hope this year gives us a chance to see this guy go toe-to-toe with some more established names on some collabs, or even a clash.
