French Montana is being criticized for a tweet he posted late Wednesday calling a black woman a "crusty dusty rusty ass hoe [sic]," among other things. The tweet was Montana's response to the young woman joking to her followers about the fact he "thinks anyone cares about him." Her tweet, however, did not tag Montana directly.

In subsequent tweets, Montana defended his comments. "My son is black, and I was born in Africa," Montana said early Thursday in response to an "anti black" accusation. "I lived there for 13 years. I ain't no punching bag, and I don't discriminate!"

Montana's use of the word "nappy" as an insult has drawn the most criticism:

When nbpoc start throwing random black terms together so they make no sense. "Nappy poetic justice braids"

Montana addressed the controversy he caused on Thursday morning and sent out a half-hearted apology for what he said:
