Sad news came today when Nicki Minaj announced that her two-year relationship with Meek Mill is officially over. The pair had been one of hip-hop's most reliable couples, supporting each other through drama with exes, worldwide tours, unexpected house arrests, and even major rap beefs. Through it all, Omeeka captured the hearts and minds of rap fans everywhere with a romance that seemed it could survive whatever celebrity life threw its way.

While dreams of their marriage may be dashed for now, fans still have years of—mostly—fond memories to look back on. Complex put together a timeline of the pair's rap romance to track the highs and lows of one of hip-hop's biggest celebrity couples.

The pair dated for years, and Safaree co-wrote several songs on her first two albums. Reports from gossip publications claim the split was due to Safaree's jealousy about Nicki's success.

As dating rumors begin to swirl, Nicki decides to feature Meek Mill twice on her third album, The Pinkprint. The album is widely believed to be inspired by her breakup with Safaree.

After being spotted together several times, an Instagram picture emerges of the two rappers getting cozy.

Things continue to heat up for the pair in a now-deleted Instagram photo, although they refuse to confirm that they're anything more than good friends.

The news that she's bringing her rumored bae on the road with her continues to fuel the gossip mill.

Although it's pretty obvious that the two were an item, neither officially confirmed this until Meek decided to break the news on Instagram.

A few cryptic Instagram posts from the couple led many to believe that their budding romance was already over, but they decide to put the rumors to bed with a joint appearance at the X-Games. Nicki is already scheduled to perform, and she brings Meek out onstage as well. They later pose together on Instagram.

The lead single from Meek's sophomore album Dreams Worth More Than Money, "All Eyes On You," would eventually go platinum and peak at No. 21 on the Billboard Hot 100.

Safaree's song "Love the Most" is a hit-job aimed at Nicki. On the track he claims credit for her success, implies that she has a problem with pills, and directs a ton of shade at her relationship with Meek Mill. In a now-deleted Twitter rant, Nicki claps back at him.

"Enough with the pity party. Just live your life," she wrote. "Lesson: don't cheat on a loyal woman. God will punish u. When he does, tell people the truth. The truth may set u free. Love. Always." She also noted that her success had brought him a ton of money, and yet all he seemed to want was more. "Took a person with me to fame & fortune. These dudes leave their girl in the hood. Tell ppl the truth or you will b doomed," she wrote.

She ended the rant with a shoutout to Meek.

During the interview, Nicki reveals how happy she is to not have to hide her relationship anymore. "We were friends for a very long time and he was someone that I was able to really confide in. Nothing that we do is for TV," she says. "My decision to be public about my relationship came before I even met Meek. I was in another relationship and I said after I drop my third album that I don't care anymore what people think. I'm going to be vocal about who I'm with. It just so happens that I'm with a new guy."

Although Drake and Meek Mill have been beefing for several months at this point, Nicki is largely able to stay above the fray in the very public fight between two people she cares about. She finally breaks her silence in a contentious interview with The New York Times Magazine

"They’re men, grown-ass men,’’ she says. ‘‘It’s between them... I hate it. It doesn’t make me feel good. You don’t ever want to choose sides between people you love. It’s ridiculous. I just want it to be over." She later walks out of the interview after the writer asks her if she "thrives on drama."

She later clarifies that it's not actually an engagement ring.

After a probation violation landed Meek a house arrest sentence, Nicki took to Twitter to deny rumors from TMZ that it was causing problems in their relationship. The story originally claimed that Nicki didn't want to live with Meek in Philly for the duration of his house arrest.

Though she has two diamond rings from Meek, Nicki denies that they're engaged in a cover story interview with Nylon

“I’m not engaged yet…We’re just taking it one step at a time. And, you know, if that happens, if I get married, then I’ll have a child, and that’ll be fun, because I can’t wait to hold my baby," she says. "I'm always trying to stop him, like, 'Nope! I ain't got that third ring yet!'" she says when discussing Meek calling her his fiance.

Despite repeated claims that he had moved on, Safaree Samuels brings a multi-million dollar lawsuit against his ex. He claims Nicki had "physically and emotionally abused" him and wants further compensation for his contributions to her career. Understandably, Nicki goes on the offensive in a series of tweets, writing that he's jealous of her success and new relationship.

It's not the first time pregnancy rumors have been attached to the couple, but it's certainly the first time that the rumors were started by Meek himself. As it turns out, this IG post is actually Nicki's head photoshopped onto another woman's body. Pregnancy, deflated.

Things seem to be going well for the couple, at least according to Meek. "I always seen it like this. I always seen it like me having one of the top hustling, prettiest girls in the game," he says in an interview with Noisey Raps. Clearly life lived up to the dream he always had in mind considering his longtime relationship with Nicki. "I wake up in my bed," he says, "and I just look at Nicki like, 'Man, this shit has gotta be a dream because we used to dream all this shit and it's just going on right now.'"

Confusion about the couple's status begins with a series of Instagram posts from Nicki.

Compounding everyone's confusion, Meek posts a now-deleted photo on Instagram of someone's lingerie-clad backside. Nobody is sure if that's Nicki Minaj in the photo or not. The caption reads “Sitting back like...... $avage... just friends.”

With one simple tweet, Nicki and Meek's relationship reaches its public end.

Meek responds with a now-deleted Instagram post firing shots at the shoes Nicki wore in the video for "I'm Out" with Ciara. Two years together, and the final word is about some shoes.
