Tinashe's sophomore album Joyride is still nowhere in sight, but at least fans will have something to enjoy with the release of her new mixtape NIGHTRIDE. The 15-track project includes three of Tinashe's recent singles: "Company," "Ride of Your Life," and "Party Favors." This would seem to indicate that only "Player" featuring Chris Brown and "Superlove" are actually set to appear on the album. Tinashe announced the mixtape on Twitter only a few hours before its release.
“It’s the business aspect,” Tinashe said to Nylon recently about her much-delayed album. “There’s always going to be a difference in opinion because they’re just looking at things from a different side. And I’m not mad at them for it.” Still, she expressed frustration that it still wasn't out after all this time.
Although she's been releasing singles periodically since September of last year, Tinashe hasn't found a major hit to follow up the success of "2 On" with ScHoolboy Q. Likely as a result of this, her album has seen a slew of release windows come and go; Fall 2015, early 2016, and October 2016 all passed without a project. She was also forced to cancel her Joyride Tour earlier this year to focus on finishing the album, which it seems is still not complete.
Hopefully, NIGHTRIDE will help Tinashe to get things back on track. You can stream the mixtape on Apple Music by clicking here or below via Spotify.
Tinashe also released a short film, also called NIGHTRIDE, to accompany the project. You can see that below.
