Shawty Lo was killed in a car accident in September shortly after leaving the Blue Flame Lounge in Atlanta, dying from blunt force trauma to the head after his car went over the guardrail, hit trees, and caught fire. According to TMZ, the Atlanta rapper also reportedly had painkillers on him and smelled like alcohol at the time of the crash.

The Fulton County Medical Examiner apparently found a prescription bottle on him labeled Promethazine that was instead filled with Percocet and Vicodin. Strangely enough, the TMZ report states that the two women with Shawty Lo in the car at the time of the crash asked cops on the scene if they could take money out of his pockets and were allegedly allowed to do so.

The rapper was only 40 years old and left behind 11 children. In light of the tragic news, the hip-hop community quickly took to social media to share their heartfelt condolences. "Legends never die...Shawty Lo Forever  🙏🏾 ," Future tweeted while DJ Drama wrote, "RIP Shawty Lo.  🙏🏽. Prayers to his family and friends. ATown Legend." Meanwhile, Shawty's fans from all over the world have been rallying together to with an online petition to change the name of an Atlanta highway to Shawty Lo Parkway.
