Last year, Elijah & Skilliam dropped their epic Grime 2015 CD—a sort of State of the Union for grime—to rapturous response from the scene and beyond. Now, one year on, and they're preparing to drop the follow-up in Grime 2016, a two-disc set that captures big names such as Skepta, Wiley, Kano, P Money, D Double E and more, with newbies like AJ Tracey, Bugzy Malone, Rocks FOE, Grim Sickers and Mez. Despite featuring a massive 42 tracks, you just know Grime 2016 was a difficult collection to put together.
The rejuvenated grime scene is going from strength to strength to strength with OGs and young guns alike constantly raising the bar. Even trimming it down to 42 tracks over two discs must still have been an agonising process. And with the Butterz gang exploring and highlighting the best Japanese grime out there, could Grime 2017 be an international affair?
