Last night, Donald Glover aka Childish Gambino hosted the first of three of what he's calling PHAROS concerts out in the middle of the desert near Joshua Tree, Calif. In the lead up to the shows, speculation had run wild about what Glover was expected to do during them. Going in, he promised that they would be the only live performances that he would give in 2016, and they quickly became one of the hottest tickets of the year.
Though phones and other recording devices were confiscated before fans entered, a few people managed to sneak their phones in to offer the world a peek behind the curtain.
Here's the view from outside of the venue:

Here's a peek at what went down inside:
was able to sneak my phone into childish gambinos #Pharos concert. was literally out of this world pic.twitter.com/Ws46M4yJZk
Even though they locked up our phones for the concert, still got videos #Pharos pic.twitter.com/OPcGIPWOYo
And here's a couple of first hand descriptions of what went down:
#PHAROS in review:
ā¢ 12 songs
ā¢ Concept album with creepy tribal vibe
ā¢ Funk/jazz hybrid
ā¢ Minimal rapping
ā¢ Creatively different
So #Pharos
-12 songs
-alien tribal vibe... yes it's a thing.
- soulful/funk/jazz.. one song had an island feel
-all singing.
-no feats
With another show going down tonight, follwed by a third concert the night after that, expect to see a lot more videos and pictures of Glover's mysterious events to come.
