"He called me to come out and do some stuff for his album, Boys Don’t Cry, that’s coming out," Lil B revealed to Dazed. "Frank is amazing. He's a beautiful man with a beautiful voice. He's a very strong man, a very strong person. Anything that I can do to help him, I will."
Unfortunately, Lil B had no new information when it came to nailing down a date when we can actually expect to hear the album. "If Frank releases," he said. "Let's see what Frank releases. Frank has the material."
If you remember, Lil B actually shared an intimate portrait of the very private and rarely seen Ocean on his Instagram a couple of months back. The image featured a closed-eyed Ocean sitting in a trippy looking chair with his beanie almost pulled all the way down to his eyes. Lil B was also featured in what were reportedly leaked pages of the Boys Don't Cry zine, which will allegedly accompany the release of the album. The picture could be the photo evidence of the pair's time spent in the studio together, or it could just be proof that they hang out. Either way, it was Lil B's very based way of letting the public know that Ocean was still alive, despite his very low profile since the original release 2015 date for Boys Don't Cry had come and gone.
Earlier this week, Ocean's right-hand man and producer, Malay, also remained tight-lipped on Frank's new project during his Reddit AMA. A Frank fan expressed their frustration with the delayed release, but Malay only supported his friend by noting that "art cannot be rushed."
An Apple Music employee said they expected the new album to arrive "within the next 24 to 72 hours" on August 12, but that estimate was also incorrect. It's still unknown exactly when Boys Don't Cry will see the light of day, but at least we know Lil B was involved in some way. Thank you, Based God. You can read his full interview here.
