Skepta has definitely surprised us with his newest track, "Coming Soon." The release finds him teaming up with Makonnen and Céon on the super-airy track that uses whistles and an almost toy-like carnival beat to set the summer stage.

The reactions to the release definitely seem split. "Do different. You're an artist. You're not supposed to be static; that's how you get stuck. You're not a genre, you're a creator 🙏💖," one Instagram user wrote praising the whole thing, but ohers were not nearly as impressed.

It was just last month that Skepta delivered his new album, Konnichiwa, to fans that had been waiting on the project for years. Stacked with contributions from Pharrell, Novelist, JME, and more, the album built upon the grime MC's signature style and London roots. "Well this is left field," one SoundCloud user notes, while another lays out his disapproval in a much clearer sentence. "This doesn't work lol."

"Coming Soon" feels like it's aiming away from his album's sound and instead gravitates to something much lighter. Only time will tell if this is a new sound that Skepta is playing with or if this track was just a one off after an ice cream truck passed him by during a day at the beach and left him inspired. At least, that's what we're assuming went down after hearing the track.

Listen to "Coming Soon" below and let us know what you think of it in the comments. Of course, you can also revisit the recently released Konnichiwa here.
