Rihanna surprised us when she dropped her new single, "Sledgehammer," that arrived as part of the soundtrack for the upcoming new Star Trek movie, but today she has topped that with the track's video.
Taking a cue from the movie, Rihanna is stuns in her best space outfit as she channels the sci-fi movie's cosmic scenery and manipulates the elements around her. The whole thing just becomes even more epic in scale, which only matches the feelings she aimed to create in the track itself. As she perfectly put it, "It needed to be big and impactful, very emotional, dramatic, and haunting at the same time. I was very, very honored to be a part of this film." The video was filmed entirely with IMAX cameras, which is the first time that has ever been done for a music video.
"Stark Trek has been part of my life since I was a little girl," Rihanna recently confessed before crediting her dad with being the one to introduce her to the story. "You always felt emotionally connected to the characters and everything they were going through...It never left me. So, it wasn't like just doing a song for any random film. I love Star Trek. It was automatic. I would do anything in terms of music."
The Star Trek cast even noted that its been Rihanna's new track that has helped them cope with the sudden and tragic death of Anton Yelchin, who starred in the film's reboot as Pavel Chekov. "Thank you @badgalriri, for a beautiful song during one of the most difficult times for our StarTrek family. We know Anton would be proud," Zoe Saldana wrote.
Rihanna just recently stunned in her video for her Calvin Harris collaboration, "This Is What You Came For," but we're always happy to have another visual starring Ri. Watch Rihanna's video for "Sledgehammer" above and look out for Star Trek Beyond to hit theaters July 22.
