Future Finally Scores First Platinum Solo Album With 'Dirty Sprite 2'

Future's Dirty Sprite 2 has sold over one million copies, officially earning the rapper his first solo platinum album. On top of that, Future's 2015 hit "March Madness" now certified gold by the RIAA for selling more than half a million copies through physical sales and streaming.

His joint effort with Drake, What a Time to Be Alive, was also certified platinum in March. Future previously struggled with solo album sales, but DS2 proved to instantly be a game changer for the rapper after moving 147,000 units in its opening week, which was more than double the sales of his first two albums, Pluto and Honest, combined. 

Future undoubtedly deserves the new success. Hopefully, it will also pick the rapper up after a hard week where his set at the Roots Picnic was cut short and his Summer Jam set was cut entirely due to weather. Future clarified the mishaps on Twitter with his manager later promising they would still make this summer one for the history books. Clearly, Future's new platinum status is a great place to start. Fans can also look forward to catching Future on the Summer Sixteen Tour when it kicks off later this year. Future also has a huge new collaboration with DJ Khaled and Jay Z that already looks crazy.

On a semi-related note, Beyoncé's latest album, LEMONADE, has also gone platinum, according to the RIAA. This is familiar territory for Queen Bey as she has already achieved platinum status for her other five studio albums. Still, she made history when LEMONADE debuted at No. 1, making her the first artist to both reach No. 1 and debut at No. 1 with her first six studio albums. Less than two months after its release, LEMONADE hit the one-million mark. Congratulations to both Future and Beyoncé.
