Nardwuar finally unleashed his interview with Drake and 40 early Monday after teasing it on social media over the last few days, and it's just as epic as you would imagine. Clocking in at over an hour, the wide-ranging interview finds Nardwuar doing some of his quintessential digging into the artists' pasts and influences.
Early in the interview, Nardwuar shares a video message for Drake from Timmy Thomas, who Drake and 40 sampled on "Hotline Bling." He goes on to get Drake to talk on the record about The Notorious B.I.G., Vybz Kartel, Mac Dre, Three 6 Mafia, the state of Toronto hip-hop, and more. He even gets the details about Drake almost getting arrested in Jamaica with Mavado.
"In Jamaica at a stage show, the way the police monitor the shows is they try not to incite the crowd so they don't want you to swear," Drake explained. "You know my first thing, I was just excited to be in Jamaica so I was cussing up a storm. Yeah, they were about to arrest me. Luckily, Beenie Man was there and a bunch of guys were there, and they just tried to explain to the police that I didn't understand. Big up to all the guys that were there that night because they saved my life."
Drake and 40 are coming off a great week, having moved over a million copies of Drake's new album VIEWS. Drake is also reportedly preparing to release the video for his hit single "One Dance," featuring Kyla and Wizkid. It's always fun to see artists deal with Nardwuar's unique interview style, but Drake and 40 seem to take it all in stride. You can check out the whole hour-long interview above.
