"He’s a lot more of an artist than you think he is. He’s not just some Future knockoff," Dean said.

Coming off the news that his monster single "Panda" hit No. 1 on the charts, Desiigner is wasting little time in preparing his debut studio album and has enlisted frequent Kanye West collaborator Mike Dean to help him. As the newest signee to West's G.O.O.D. Music record label, the partnership will almost certainly give the Brooklyn rapper a leg-up as he attempts to build off the stunning success of his debut hit.

In an interview with Billboard, Dean talked about some of the challenges he's experienced in collaborating with his decidedly young, 19-year-old charge. "I don’t know where he got his music influence,” the producer said. “Just like that old s--t that I had, the s--t with A$AP Rocky and Yams and all that shit. Like Yams said they grew up on that music on the Internet. Me and Plain Pat were talking about Desiigner. To older people, listening to music is like soul music or old rock music. To Desiigner though [what’s out now] is all the music he knows.”

Dean also addressed the frequent comparisons that Desiigner has drawn to Future's signature auto-tuned vocal style. "He’s a lot more of an artist than you think he is. He’s not just some Future knockoff. He talks like that -- he sounds like he’s got Auto-Tune on his voice in real life. He talks like Future raps, which is weird."

It certainly seems to be a busy time for Dean. In addition to crafting tracks for his new album, he also revealed that he's in the midst of working on projects with Kid Cudi, Sky Ferreira, and Travi$ Scott.
