Listen to BADBADNOTGOOD’s “Speaking Gently”

Toronto’s favourite trio just became a quartet.

None

At their last Toronto show at the Danforth Music Hall on March 12th, BADBADNOTGOOD announced that longtime saxophone player/guitarist Leland Whitty would permanently join their lineup. Once a trio, now a quartet, it feels only fitting that the group is currently putting in major work on their aptly titled album IV.

Today, the band shared a taste of what’s to come with “Speaking Gently,” a spiraling 4-minute jam with psychedelic organ leads, spastic drum grooves, and a wandering bassline, capped off with a stellar sax solo during the bridge. Based on this song alone, the new iteration of BBNG might lend itself to ‘70s prog-rock comparisons more-so than straight up jazz, at times sounding more like King Crimson worshippers than students of Miles Davis.
