Jordan Solomon is a newcomer to the Toronto scene, but he’s already starting to make low-key waves. With just three songs to his name, the 18-year-old brings a melodic touch to ominous, trap beats, placing him as the newest torchbearer for the Toronto sound.
On his fourth official release, “Old Me,” Solomon connects with Norwegian producer KrissiO on a bass-heavy banger, crooning auto-tuned bars rife with rap game ambitions. Could it be a self-fulfilling prophecy for the young talent? Well, to our ears, this track can go toe-to-toe with one by any of the city’s more established voices in this lane, ie. PartyNextDoor, Safe, and Devontée.
“This song is about the changes I have to make in my life to get to where I want to be,” Jordan Solomon told Complex via email. “I reflect on the sacrifices I’ve made in my life for others, and how I have to focus on myself to move forward with music.”
Listen to “Old Me” below. Stay tuned for more heat from Jordan Solomon, including a track produced by Ramriddlz’s right-hand beatmaker Jaegen, coming soon.
