Despite prior reports of no plans for a memorial service, David Bowie's family has announced in an official statement that there will be a private ceremony in celebration of the singer's life. "The family of David Bowie is currently making arrangements for a private ceremony celebrating the memory of their beloved husband, father and friend," it reads. "We are overwhelmed by and grateful for the love and support shown throughout the world."

The note goes on to say that while other tributes and memorials are welcome, no other service is an official service endorsed by the Bowie family. "Just as each and every one of us found something unique in David's music, we welcome everyone’s celebration of his life as they see fit." Bowie's tribute concert turned memorial concert is still set for New York's Carnegie Hall on March 31 with performances from the Roots, Cyndi Lauper, the Mountain Goats, Heart's Ann Wilson, Perry Farrell, and Jakob Dylan.
