Just a couple months ago Diplo revealed that Major Lazer's biggest hit to date almost belonged to someone else, admitting during an interview with Time that both Nicki Minaj and Rihanna turned down the "Lean On" beat. “[MØ] sounds better than anybody was going to sound on that record," he conceded of the DJ Snake collaboration either way. "All we want to do is make the records feel like classics, even though they’re feeling progressive and strange to a normal ear.” Well, that "progressive and strange to a normal ear" approach has worked out in a big way with news released today that "Lean On" has officially ticked off enough plays on Spotify to earn its place as the most streamed track ever on the platform. According to Billboard, "Lean On" knocked Ed Sheeran's "Thinking Out Loud" off the top-spot with a total count of 526 million plays worldwide.
