Premiere: Listen to Tre Mission’s “Eyes Low”

This could propel him from cult hero to mainstream prospect.

Tre Mission’s critically acclaimed 2014 record Stigmata earned him a Polaris Prize nomination, and though the Canadian Grime Lord has busied himself with features, remixes, and producing tracks for other artists, we’ve finally got a look at some new solo music.

Our first glimpse of “Eyes Low” came via a clip shared in Ryan Hemsworth’s Just Rap Mix, but now we’ve got the full mix to vibe with. “Eyes Low” is a crowd favorite at Tre’s live shows, which comes as no surprise—the Toronto-based rapper/producer injects melody into a high tempo hook, snapping over one of his catchiest instrumentals to date.

“I recorded this song over a year ago after my album Stigmata was released,” Tre Mission told Complex. “Anyone who listens to my music knows that I try to make it very musical, while still keeping it very grimy. Finding that middle ground can be hard to do, but it was around the time I made "Eyes Low" that I began to feel like I was figuring out.”

If this is the direction Tre Mission’s post-Stigmata material is headed, the surplus of pop hooks and fiery beats could help him crossover from cult hero to mainstream prospect, if he’s willing.

Listen to “Eyes Low” below. Tre Mission will play a sold out show with Kaytranada on Sunday Nov. 22 at the Echoplex in Los Angeles, as part of Red Bull Sound Select's 30 Days in LA.
