UPDATE (11/06/15): In a new interview with FADER, Erykah Badu dives deeper into her upcoming mixtape, BUT U CAINT USE MY PHONE. She says every song will be phone related, and it will be releasing on iTunes at the end of the month around Thanksgiving. “I think it's a whole new frequency for the planet and I just wanted to do it because it's inspiring me to write my new album—it's kind of like the buffer in between,” she says. Earlier this month, Erykah Badu dropped a stunning rework of Drake's smash hit, "Hotline Bling." While we unfortunately haven't been blessed with her rework of the video for the track (Please, Erykah, we're waiting on this), she just confirmed her new mixtape is dropping sooner than we thought.

In an interview with Noisey, Badu promised BUT U CAINT USE MY PHONE, the mixtape she teased in the Soundcloud description of "Hotline Bling," will drop next week. As for why she decided to rework Drizzy's hit, she says she "was inspired to record [it] after hearing Drake make 'a cute song.'"

Badu shared her thoughts on the Meek Mill vs. Drake beef—"Loved it. That’s what hip-hop is about to me."—her one-woman show premiering in Dallas sometime this week, and more in the interview which you can read in full right here. If you haven't yet, stream her "Hotline Bling" rework below:
