Madison, WI. based artist Trapo—who is only 17 years old—is gearing up to drop his debut project, The Black Beverly Hills EP. Today, he premieres his brand new song, and the EP's first single, "Modelo."
"There was a point where I was getting in a lot of trouble and not really taking school or rap seriously," he told Complex over email. "My parents’ love was unconditional, but you could see that their opinion of me was declining. They knew that if I kept it up at that pace, I would live up to nothing. Around my junior year, I started really taking things seriously. This song is about that time in my life. I have younger cousins that looked up to me, and I was like, ‘you shouldn’t.’ I still feel like I’m not fully a good role model, but back then I really wasn’t."
The slow-burning, bluesy production and Trapo's aggressive yet melodic rhymes are a refreshing sound. Stream it below:
