The Weeknd Is The Most Popular Artist On Beats 1 Radio

Drake is a close second, though.

Anchored by Zane Lowe, Ebro Darden, and Julie AdenugaApple Musiclaunched its Beats 1 Radio stream on June 30. Now that Beats 1 Radio has been live for more than a month, Quartz has published a statistical breakdown of Beats 1 Radio's playlists to date, with data sorted by genre, artist, and song.

The topline takeaways are that The Weeknd is Beats 1 Radio's most frequently played artist, largely on the strength of his recent singles "Can't Feel My Face" and "The Hills." The Weeknd's "Can't Feel My Face," which just topped the Billboard Hot 100, also happens to be the most frequently played song on Beats 1 Radio.

Drake is the second-most frequently played artist (and the most frequently played rapper) on Beats 1 Radio, with Fetty Wap, A$AP Rocky, Kendrick Lamar, Meek Mill, Vince Staples, and Future also featuring in the streaming service's top 20 artists. (With the exception of Fetty, all of these rappers have dropped full, acclaimed, commercially successful albums since January.)

Hip-hop is, by far, the most frequently played genre on Beats 1 Radio. R&B, pop, dance, and electronic music are also well ahead of rock music in the cumulative preference of Beats 1 Radio's regular segments and guest presenters.
