Both M.I.A. and Apple Music have been teasing the release of a new project and today the singer stopped by Zane Lowe's Beats 1 show to premiere Matahdatah Scroll 01 "Broader Than a Border," exclusively available on the music streaming site. Featuring new song "Swords" co-produced by Spanker and 2013's Matangi track "Warriors," Matahdatah Scroll 01 "Broader Than A Border" provides a link from M.I.A.'s last LP to the new one with a video directed by the singer featuring both songs.

Speaking of the video, you might remember back in May when M.I.A. ran into a bit of trouble with her label when she tried to release a new video. She tweeted that she couldn't release the video which was filmed in the Cote d'Ivoire due to "cultural appropriation." She wrote "If the music industry allows an African artist to come through this year on intnl level, I would gladly give him this video for free." Today it seems that M.I.A. has finally been allowed to release the same video as part of her new release Matahdatah Scroll 01 "Broader Than a Border."

M.I.A. explains “I directed and edited my first music video for "Warriors" for my last album MATANGI,and I held it back until now, because it inspired me to make a whole series of songs and videos on the concept of borders. Making songs and videos at the same time out of a suitcase on location is something I did on my album KALA, but it's video, as well as music, made by me in a very arular way.”

The Matahdatah Scroll 01 “Broader Than A Border” is the first in a series of global releases over the coming months where each bundle will feature a collection of new M.I.A. songs and a video directed and edited by M.I.A. herself with each filmed in a different country. The individual sections will ultimately come together to form M.I.A.'s new album Matahdatah – a full-length album and film experience about borders. “The concept for this LP is ”broader then a border" and MATAHDATAH is the journal of MATANGI," says M.I.A.

Watch it now exclusively below, at Apple Music or on M.I.A.’s “Connect” page. Purchase Matahdatah Scroll 01 ‘Broader Than A Border” now on iTunes and look for M.I.A.'s forthcoming album Matahdatah coming soon which on Interscope Records.
