Born & Bred Festival: Goldie's Top 5 Acts Not To Miss

Presented by FOUND.

This weekend, FOUND are set to raise the live levels once again with their off-shoot event: Born & Bred. One of the many festivals put together by the FOUND guys this summer, Born & Bred—which will be held at Haggerston Park, Shoreditch, on Saturday 6th June—will champion the true sounds of the city, with leading figures from across the electronic/bass spectrum taking the stage, including: Wiley, Newham Generals, Novelist, Zinc, Zed Bias, The Heatwave, DJ Luck & MC Neat, Oxide & Neutrino and many, many more.

One of the main headliners on the day will be Metalheadz master, Goldie. A heavyweight in the drum & bass arena, the DJ, producer, and label head-honcho will be doing exactly what he's best known for doing: spinning the crowd into a ragga skank frenzy! Here are five acts not to miss, according to the gold-grilled man himself.

Wiley

"Wiley is an outspoken UK legend. Grime came through with all the expression and fire of the first wave of hip-hop; it was alien, and they didn't care what anyone else thought. Out of all the Wiley tracks, I'd say that 'Gangsters' is probably one of my favourites. I love it, man. He sounds like he has massive conviction talking about the underbelly of UK life."

Zinc

"Zinc has been doing this thing for a long, long time. Just listen to his Trust Me I Was There... mixes, and you'll get an idea of the guy's history. He's recently been getting back into doing regular jungle sets and you need to see them; he goes fully in and people are very receptive to it—which just goes to show you how ingrained into our psyche jungle music actually is."

DMZ

"The DMZ crew are the sons of what we did with the first wave of 'Headz, and it makes me proud to know that they created and mastered their own thing using our blueprint. One listen to 'Anti War Dub' and it just soothes you [laughs]. As the saying goes: 'Meditate on bass weight.'"

Trojan

"What can you say about Trojan, man—they're just part of the foundation. No introduction needed! I've been playing a lot more reggae sets recently and it's just pure vibes, from start to finish. Like I always say: none of us would be here without dub or reggae. For UK musicthe music that Born & Bred are focusing onwe took the Jamaican soundsystem ethos and made it ours."

Joker

"Bristol has a long and varied tradition of bass music; I saw it first-hand with the Wild Bunch and Nelle Hooper. Joker's sound has developed a lot further than this tune, 'Purple City', but I love the attitude in it... It's just good to see Bristol still innovating, still not chasing fashion, and continuing to put their own spin on things."
