Hip-hop institution The Roots, R&B songstress Janelle Monae, and technicolour psych-rock weirdos The Flaming Lips will all perform free concerts in Toronto’s Nathan Phillips Square as part of Panamania, a 35-day arts and culture festival running in conjunction with the 2015 Pan Am games.
The 2015 Pan Am Games in Toronto are a little more than two months away, and as excitement builds, we’re getting a look at how the city plans to enrich the experience for visitors and residents alike. Over a 35-day span, more than 1300 artists are scheduled to perform. As a bonus, all programming at Nathan Phillips and Pan Am Park on Exhibition Place grounds will be free and open to the public, with notable acts including Death From Above 1979, Chromeo, Tanya Tagaq, Jan Freakin’ Arden, Dragonette, A Tribe Called Red, and many more.
Panamania begins July 10th and runs until August 15th. Nathan Phillips sounds like the place to be during the games—it’ll also feature nightly fireworks displays and victory celebrations for medal-winning athletes.
The Flaming Lips perform July 19th, The Roots on August 8th, and Janelle Monae on August 9th. Find out more information here, and check out an abbreviated schedule below:
