Earlier this year, Lauryn Hill announced that she would be performing her first performance in Lagos, Nigeria on May 1 as part of May Day Live. However, Hill was unable to make the trip to Africa and posted her explanation on Facebook yesterday.

Today, she shared an official apology video (above) with the organizers of May Day.

“Hello Lagos. Listen, we’re very sorry we couldn’t be there with you tonight. We were at the airport for seven hours yesterday trying to get to you. But we’re gonna make it there, we’re gonna get there,” she said, before going into an acoustic version of her classic “Doo Wop (That Thing).”

Hill's upcoming Lagos appearance isn’t the first time she has performed in Africa. She held a big show in Ghana and was in South Africa for Cape Town Jazz Festival.
