On March 31, 2015 Jodeci released its fourth studio album, The Past, The Present, The Future. The project marked the return of one of the most important and influential groups in music history; a group that helped define the sound of an entire decade of music. (If for some reason you can’t comprehend how big Jodeci was, take a look at our ‘90s Male R&B Group Pyramid of Excellence.) But a lot has happened since DeVante Swing, Mr. Dalvin, K-Ci, and JoJo all released music together. Many of their contemporaries are now legacy acts, performing on cruises or huddling together to put on shows in small venues. Even the groups that followed in their wake—Dru Hill, 112—are now mostly irrelevant. However, if the rampant sampling and interpolating of their lyrics and melodies is any indication, Jodeci is as loved today as they were twenty years ago.

Before the release of the album, K-Ci and Mr. Dalvin came by to talk about what makes their music timeless, the possibility of working with Drake, and the Tupac collaborations that we'll never get to hear.
