For far too long, ponderous types in duffel coats have complained that instrumental grime is a creative cul-de-sac, not hard enough for a club or regular enough for an MC to spit over. Interesting. Well, it looks like those duffel-sporting cynics have a big old plate of fedora pie to get through, because Darq E Freaker and New York rapper Dai Burger just made them look really, really silly. On their collaborative single "Choppin Necks", the production is gloriously laid out with a powerful rhythm section, space-age synths and some jaw-dropping bars from Dai Burger. All-in-all, it's pretty much exactly what instrumental grime has been crying out for. Listen to "Choppin Necks" below and keep an eye out for Freaker's new EP on Rinse later this year.
