Philadelphia rap legend, Cool C, who was scheduled to be executed tomorrow by lethal injection, has been granted a 2nd stay of execution. The 44-year-old MC born as Christopher Roney was convicted in 1996 of murdering a police officer during a bank robbery that went astray. Roney was originally scheduled to be executed in 2006, but the Governor of Pennsylvania granted him a stay of execution.
In November, Gov. Tom Corbett signed an execution warrant for Roney that was scheduled for January 8, but Philadelphia Judge L. Felipe Restrepo granted a stay of execution back in December, though word of the ruling apparently just got out. Roney has maintained his innocence in the case since he was sentenced, despite video and other evidence connecting him to the crime.
