Killer Mike has been one of hip-hop's leading voices during these turbulent social times. His onstage speech following the Ferguson Grand Jury decision was what everyone wanted, and needed to hear. His discussion on race in America with CNN's Brooke Baldwin was insightful and impassioned. At every stop, his words have been reasoned and steady, but still emotionally sensible.

On this Martin Luther King Day, Killer Mike published an Op-Ed at Okayplayer. In it, he called upon all of us to heed and believe in MLK's messages of love, non-violence, and humanity, remember his life in earnest, and most importantly: continue his work. Be sure to read the full piece (you'll learn a thing or two, or three about MLK), but for now, let Killer Mike's closing salvo sink in:

"Be willing to fight–with your life if need be–for the freedom, justice and liberation of all against tyranny and the war machine that these countries and corporations force upon us and call ‘normal’. We don’t need more depictions of Martin as anything other than what he was–and what we have to become to ever realize his dream of the eradication poverty, miseducation, inequality and war. We have to be revolutionaries and nothing less."
