Lifetime may have received poor reviews for their Aaliyah biopic that aired in November, but the jokes on the viewers as the television network was able to capitalize with high ratings. Lifetime continues their foray into musician biopics next year with Whitney, a film that will detail the life of the late legendary singer Whitney Houston.

We get our first look at the biopic in the trailer recently released, which stars model-turned-actress Yaya DaCosta as Whitney and Arlen Escarpeta as Bobby Brown. Based on this 60-second sneak peak, Whitney looks remarkably better than what Lifetime delivered with the Aaliyah biopic, and that may have something to do with the Angela Bassett, who makes her directorial debut. For the record, Bassett has played several biographical roles in her career, including Tina Turner, Rosa Parks, and Voletta Wallace—the mother of The Notorious B.I.G.—so she knows a thing or two about biopics.

Check out trailer here. Lifetime's Whitney will air Saturday, Jan. 17.
