One time for the pear life

With all the recent hoopla and attention towards Rick Ross' new diet and slimmed down appearance, for which he attributed to in part eating pears, nobody ever stopped to think, "What has this done to the U.S. pear market?" Well, thanks to the good folks over at Modern Farmer, that question is now answered.

According to USA Pears' spokesperson (yes, that's a real thing), Kathy Stephenson, the U.S. pear market hasn't seen an actual uptick in sales or productivity since Rozay proclaimed his love for the fruit, but they have noticed a significant increase in social media activity. This has lead to about a hundred new followers on their Twitter account, and a countless amount of people trying to prove that they love pears more than Ross, which we're not sure is even possible.

“On behalf of our 1,600 pear growers from the Northwest region, we are pleased that Rick has mentioned the health benefits of pears,” Stephenson writes in an email to Modern Farmer, adding that pears provide 24 percent of the recommended daily intake of fiber, which helps curb an appetite. “Overall, we could not be more pleased with our message being delivered to a new, young and hip demographic.”

So just as Ross shows his appreciation for pears, the pear farmers of America want to show it right back. Now, all need is that pear flavored Ciroc, Diddy
