Birmingham three-piece Ruane Maurice are a bit of a strange beast; in the broadest sense their music is hip-hop but they're approach is entirely their own. On their latest track, "Nomenclature", the band juxtaposes vocalist Sam Lewis' gravelly delivery against their delicate, laid-back instrumentation and mirror this with the hypnotic, trance-inducing visuals of the video.
Influences from industrial bands like Throbbing Gristle and This Heat are worn proudly on Ruane Maurice's sleeves—the hypnotic Twilight Zone-style video more than attests to that—but the simple melody at the hear of "Nomenclature" keeps it memorable and catchy.
