Philadelphia rap legend Cool C will be executed on Jan. 8. The 44-year-old born as Christopher Roney was convicted in 1996 of murdering a police officer during a botched bank robbery and sentenced to death by lethal injection. His original execution date was March 9, 2006, but the governor of Pennsylvania granted him a stay of execution.
In 1987, Cool C became well-known for a diss song against Marley Marl, Kool G Rap, and Big Daddy Kane, and a year later he received a record contract from Atlantic. After releasing two solo albums he joined the hardcore group C.E.B. One of the other group members, Steady B, joined Cool C in the robbery that would land both in prison.
Cool C has maintained his innocence since being sentenced, despite video and ballistic evidence connecting him to the murder.
Steady B is currently serving a life sentence.
