Back in June, Hyperdub labelhead Kode9 said that there was some unreleased DJ Rashad material on the way, and proceeds from the release(s?) would be going to Rashad's son, as well as a Teklife compilation being on the way. Today, FACT is reporting that there is a Teklife compilation, Next Life, that Hyperdub will be releasing. It will not only include posthumous material from DJ Rashad, but material from the Chicago crew (including Spinn, RP Boo, Gant-Man, Traxman, and others), as well as the likes of DJ Paypal, Tripletrain, and more. Word is that Hyperdub is going to be giving the proceeds from Next Life to DJ Rashad's son Chad.
We'll keep you posted on further details on this release.
UPDATE The press release for Next Life was just released; the 20-track compilation is said to feature "the full spectrum of moods at which DJ Rashad excelled," and contains one tune from Rashad (the Spinn, Taso, and Manny collaboration "OTS"). Word is that the digital release will also have some bonus tunes on it. This writer is personally loving that DJ Tre's "DNB Spaceout" (which we first heard on his Fenomena podcast back in January) has been included. Check out the full tracklist:
