Whenever a producer samples 50 Cent, they really have to make sure they do so in a way that’s just not corny. It happens all too often that a classic 50 track is taken and completely mangled to the point where it’s like “why did you even use that sample?” Sometimes, though, a producer comes through with something that’s worth the sample and that’s what Darker Than Wax’s NeguimBeats did with his new freebie “Something Special.” The sample comes from a line at the opening of the 2007 Timbaland-produced 50 Cent and Justin Timberlake collaboration, “Ayo Technology,” from 50’s third album, Curtis. NeguimBeats takes 50’s words and flips ‘em into a chilled out tropical-type house tune with wavy synths and a bobbing bassline and a minimalist flair that keeps the track 1hunnid throughout. Fans of Kygo and the like should find this appealing, but regardless, this is the kind of track that gets you through a tough week and you’re just living for the weekend; at least it is for me.
