The Contract are the latest alt-hip-hop outfit to come out of London (via Lagos). Comprising the talents of Shane Chubbz and DAP, the pair today drop off their first offering to the world, with "Joga". Shane Chubbz first came to our attention late last year with a double-sided visual effort containing the summer vibes of "Holiday" and the dark, sinister "Where I’m From", shot by Dre Films and Jon J of MMG fame.
The west Londoner then followed it up with the release of the well-received Chubbziano EP at the top of the year. The extended play also gave us a sample of the workings of rapper/producer DAP, who manages to inject the experimental aspects that have come to define The Contract's sound. "Joga" is only a taste but it already highlights the musical avenues open to the duo, as it matches a frenetic samba-esque instrumental with the potent lyricism.
