Wafer-thin yet still filled with the gravitas of a track that emotionally feels like it weighs a ton more, 18-year old Liverpool, England-based vocalist/producer Låpsley's "Falling Short" is the first tune from BBC Radio 1 DJ Annie Mac's Annie Mac Presents 2014 compilation. With the heft of an iron fist but the feel of a velvet glove, this track approaches a whisper of vocal, hint of melody and still finds a way to pack considerable low-end intensity. Unlike so many similar tracks that feature the heft of funk-aided rhythm and blues, this provides that same theory, but it's more comfortably pop in execution. If wanting Flying Lotus but still a lover of Kate Nash, this is a happy medium that will satiate your diverse aural tendencies for certain.
