These funky beats with samples we can't place and low end that will undoubtedly get the cops called on you if you have decent speakers (shout out to this subwoofer and my crazy cat lady neighbor) are nothing new, but this flood of records from California is freighting, particularly when you mull on the fact that there are countless producers that have been setting the standard and breaking the mold years before this wave was ever a thing. The latest from Los Angeles resident Djemba Djemba is ferocious, looping wonky synth work in with a kick that's built to break everything, and adding vocals that say "I got girls in my car and I don't drive," which Djemba Djemba dedicated to his "fav friend without a license." It's downloadable, too, so you can rinse it out and test the limits of those around you this weekend.
