Last week, DJ Premier and Royce da 5'9" shared a brief video clip that featured the two revered hip-hop artists linking up in Adrian Younge's studio for a quick freestyle session. As it turns out, the clip was a teaser for their new collaborative project, under the alias PRhyme

Premier and Royce formally announce plans for their project today, which is set to feature Jay Electronica, Common, Mac MillerAb-Soul, Killer Mike, ScHoolboy Q, Dwele, and Slaughterhouse. “I want people to appreciate the fact that we didn’t compromise in lieu of the environment. In order to try to change the way that people digest music, we had to take a leap of faith,” Royce says in a statement.

The project will also be crafted with only samples from Adrian Younge's catalog, an approach Premier has never made in his career. “I’ve never sampled just one artist, I’m known for my reputation and my creativity,” he says. “I wanted it to be my traditional thing where I sample everything I find, but I am really proud how the project came out and Royce is one hell of a pusher.”

Their project is expected to be released later this year.
