While other spots and selectors might be concerned with representing the now, we've always liked peering into the future of the EDM scene, trying to map out what moves will be occurring six months from now. Back in November of 2013, we spoke about the sounds that define what's next in the EDM scene, and spoke about the kuduro sound coming from Africa. It's a style that's popped up often on DAD, including recent material from MaxX & EJ, Buraka Som Sistema, and DJ Marfox. If you can only imagine the smile on my face when Major Lazer's Walshy Fire dropped his latest mix, "Africa Is The Future," alongside Fully Focus.
They don't stick primarily to kuduro, though; this ~80 minute journey features a number of African sounds, including Afrohouse, azonto, and much more. You more than likely won't recognize a number of the acts in this mix, but know that they represent many parts of Africa, and bring a sound all their own. Feels like something you can go ham to during carnival.
