The American deep/tech/future house side of the scene is widely varied in style. So much so that it can be hard to sift through it all and figure out where to really direct your focus. One name though that consistently sticks out is Kentucky’s Amtrac. Amtrac has really leveled up in the last year with remixes for Kaskade and ZHU, big time festival and club appearances, and just an overall rising profile. This week Amtrac teamed up with Mark Knight’s Toolroom Records to re-release “Those Nights”—a track that Amtrac released in 2012 via Soundcloud and has since played a big role in his rise. Speaking on the track, Amtrac left this note with the track:

“What I love most about house music is rhythm and soul. That's the basis of everything this scene is about, and it's what I strive for in every single one of my productions. This record was honestly a very happy accident—my production style is based on a lot of trial and error. Once I got the vocal chop together, I knew I had something. The majority of the track was made without any drums; they got added in the end. It's easier for me to find the vibe and emotion of a song without the kick smacking my ears the whole time, but when I finally added the drums, the track really came to life. I've been playing Toolroom records for a long, long time. So being the first release in the new-look Toolroom is an honor for me”

As for how he got linked up with Toolroom, Amtrac told DAD in simple terms:

"My manager happened to be hanging out with Mark Knight one night and played him 'Those Days.' As I recall, Mark said, 'This tunes is rough!' That's where the relationship started!” Amtrac added, "Yes there are definitely plans to work with the Toolroom guys again in the near future. I hope to put out another single through them by the end of the year!”
