Well, this could've been "Ninja Rap," but thankfully, it's not. Nearly 25 years ago in 1991, the film Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles II: The Secret of the Ooze was released, and the lead single from the soundtrack featured then-hot pop rapper Vanilla Ice rapping to a dance-friendly breakbeat and reciting the hook "Go Ninja Go!" Now, the year is 2014, and a trio of emcees–de facto Taylor Gang leader Wiz Khalifa, Juicy J, and Ty Dolla $ign - join forces for the lead soundtrack single for the August 8-released Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shell Shocked film. Produced by Kill The Noise and Madsonik, "Shell Shocked" is a top-40 ready pizza slice of turtle-powered turn up. Juicy J's performance on this track is especially noteworthy as on a track were it's not necessarily required, he drops gems both puerile ("you know I got ya back, just like a turtle shell") and understatedly golf-clap worthy ("Nobody do it better, all my brothers trying to get some cheddar, we all want our cut like the Shredder"). Of many intriguing pop moves of late, no more amazing portrait of the intersection where pop, rap and EDM come together in 2014 need be painted.
