The 17 Biggest Music Fails of 2014 (So Far)

We're a little over six months into 2014 and once again the music industry has already rewarded us with a wide array of fails. Whether it be Macklemore's questionable choice in stage costumes, Bieber's string of racist videos, or Robin Thicke's embarrassing attempt to win back his wife, the year has not been short on less than ideal moments for some of the biggest names in music. So we put together a list of The 17 Biggest Music Fails of 2014 (So Far) for your amusement. We can't wait to see what the second half will bring.

Remember when people didn't think Lupe Fiasco was bat shit crazy? Those were the days. During an interview with Hot 97's Peter Rosenberg, Fiasco said that he thinks Cassidy is a better rapper than Kendrick Lamar and accused Rosenberg of being a "nut hugger" for Kendrick. Also included on Fiasco's "better than Kendrick" list? Logic and King Los. So, to be clear again, Fiasco thinks, lyrically, Cassidy is a better rapper than Kendrick Lamar. Makes sense—Cassidy did make "My Drink n My 2 Step" which had lyrical gems like "My money used to be immature now my shit grown/Big wheels, big homes, I'm doing it big holmes." I mean we're talking Rakim type shit here people.

During the 2014 Tony Awards, T.I. and LL Cool J joined Hugh Jackman for an exremely awkward rap version of "The Music Man" that should only be watched once for reference and then never again. During the show, Hugh Jackman alluded to the fact that the first rap song may have actually been created by Broadway composer Meredith Wilson back in 1957. The 50s? Oh, for sure, old white men were definitely all for rap music and pushing black culture forward in the 50s.

The first rule of Trey Songz is don't talk about Trey Songz. At least that's the philosophy if your name is August Alsina (and that's probably not your name because whose name is August?). Earlier this year, 106 & Park co-host Keshia Chante crossed the line when she asked Alsina about his beef with Trey Songz. Alsina responded to Keshia by saying "I just told y'all not to ask me that shit when I got up in here." Chante then continued to press Alsina on the question making for a more uncomfortable situation than 106 & Park co-host Bow Wow Shad Moss trying to get on the grown up rides at the amusement park.

Robin Thicke has been on a more aggressive campaign than Obama's first Presidential run to win back his wife Paula Patton. His latest album is named Paula and features songs all recorded with the intention of wooing Paula back. We already told you why you shouldn't feel bad for Robin Thicke, but with his pathetic album sales, we take it no one cares enough to feel bad for him. 

During an interview on ESPN's First Take, DJ Khaled accused the San Antonio Spurs of purposely turning the arena air conditioning off during the first game of the NBA finals (or the Cramp Game, as it's become known). When asked his source for this information, DJ Khaled cited "the streets." It isn't common knowledge that "the streets" are a strong point of information on HVAC services, but then again, DJ Khaled isn't your average insider. Remember the time Khaled went to Marcy Projects because he wanted to "see what type of trees is growing in Marcy Projects, what type of water Jay Z was drinking." This guy is just all about research.

Quick, think of one thing you wouldn't want to do if you were one of the newest superstars in the music industry. Did "make fun of Jewish people" come to mind? If it did, you would be correct. During a concert in his hometown of Seattle in May, Macklemore took the stage wearing a costume made up of a fake, abnormally large nose, full black beard, and wig—which is the exact kind of costume you'd wear if you wanted to make fun of Jewish people. Macklemore tried to explain the costume by saying "most people" thought he looked like Ringo Starr or Abe Lincoln. By "most people," we assume Macklemore means him and Ryan Lewis. The heat got so bad that even Seth Rogen got in the mix and tweeted some ether at Macklemore.

Of course, Macklemore eventually released an apology.

Whether you admit it or not, your favorite moment of Hot 97's 2014 Summer Jam was Slowbucks getting his chain snatched on-stage during 50 Cent's performance. And if that wasn't enough embarassment for Bucks, he followed this up by holding the first press conference in the history of snitching. Bucks alluded to 50's involvement in the chain snatching to which 50 promptly denied but not before taking a jab at Bucks during a G-Unit reunion show where he said on stage, "I want everyone to get home safe, because there's so much police in here courtesy of Slowbucks." Side note: Why would you name yourself Slowbucks? Isn't the point for money to come fast? Why do you want money to come slow? Are we thinking about this too deeply?

We're not going to say 50 Cent throws like a girl but, did you just see that first pitch? 50 Cent had the honor of throwing out the first pitch at a recent New York Mets game and managed to throw the ball so far left of the catcher's glove, it wound up at Yankees Stadium. In fact, we're pretty sure 50 Cent made a considerable impression on his future Special Olympics hopes with this pitch. On the bright side, 50's arm isn't that much worse than Zack Wheeler's.

On his song "BLK & WHT," Rick Ross spit, "Trayvon Martin, I'm never missing my target." Because...well...he thought it was a good idea? The line set-off a firestorm of criticism (though not worse than the firestorm he set off with his "molly all in her champagne" line) to which Ross released a statement saying, "There I'm reminding people that if you're a black person or a person of any color, for that matter, in this country, you have to be accurate, whatever moves you make, stay accurate." This basically translates to...we have no idea. Stay accurate? Ross is using Trayvon Martin as a metaphor to say that he's "accurate" with a firearm which is not only disrespectful, but a lie. We all know the only thing Ross is shooting is preview videos of the preview video for his new video.

Justin Bieber took not one, but two huge Ls when videos of him using the N-word hit the Internet. Aside from the fact Bieber's "One Less Lonely N*gga" remix was actually better than the original "One Less Lonely Girl," these videos were a terrible look for Bieber. But everything's fine now according to Mack Maine, because Bieber isn't actually racist. In Mack's eyes he's "legitimately adopted black culture." You know, by hanging out with Lil' Twist.
