Success doesn't happen overnight. YG is proof of that. While he earned early buzz for his 2010 single "Toot It and Boot It," the Compton rapper still had to corner the streets and the mixtape circuit, which took some years and a handful of releases.

He finally broke through to the next level this year with his debut album My Krazy Life. The project is a labor of love for YG, who spent time piecing together the release with longtime partner and producer DJ Mustard, and they were able to craft an unexpected gem that hip-hop fans had to respect. It was so good we named it the best album of 2014 so far. Move over Kendrick: You're not the only success story out of Compton these days.

Complex TV recently caught up with the YG, who talked about the success of My Krazy Life and what it's like to share that with his close pal DJ Mustard. "We blessed," the 24-year-old rapper says with a relatively warm tone. "We appreciate everything that's going on right now."

YG also talked about his time recording My Krazy Life in Atlanta and how that shaped his debut release. "I went to Atlanta to sit down and focus because I couldn't do it out here in Los Angeles." The Compton rapper linked up with industry vets like Don Cannon and DJ Infamous during his trip and ended up recording a handful of songs for My Krazy Life. Clearly his extended stay in ATL was more than worth it.

Watch the full interview above, where YG also talks about his favorite records to perform and what he has planned in the near future. Be sure to check out our interview with DJ Mustard below. YG's My Krazy Life is available for purchase on iTunes.
