A little over a month ago, we posted the "Liquid Metal" mix from Romanian producer Liar, hyping up his intense Cybertime EP. The sound, which we've heard being described as "operatic-cyber-grime," is right up my alley, and when I got word that Liar wanted to contribute to our Five Tracks series, I was definitely interested in what he'd be putting us on to. As he describes it, his contribution is full of ""audio pre-gaming" tracks: anything that, when played at full blast, completely gets me in the optimal headspace for what I'm about to do." It's Friday, aka ALL PRE-GAME EVERYTHING, so why not look at bits that will help you truly get your mind right?!

Randomer - "Real Talk"

randomer realtalk vinyl

Pre-gaming for gigging or clubbing. This evergreen, versatile brawler fits any kind of set (at least as far as I'm concerned). Most of what is (in my certifiably non-humble opinion) vital to dance music nowadays, old and new, is represented in a respective element of this track.

Source Direct - "Call & Response"

I'd like to say that this is pre-gaming for hacking, or for smoking and brooding as Deacon did in the Blade movie. But really I just play this demonic classic when I am about to go out and do dark deeds of a less cinematic nature.

Sub Focus - "Turn Back Time (Special Request Remix)"

sf tbt cover

Pre-gaming for exciting days, joyous occasions, and just generally good times. Superb juxtaposition and interplay of catharsis and restraint, of diva rave and pure hardcore, of old and new, of uplifting and visceral.

Clara La San - "Rock Your Body"

CLS RYB

My current pre-gaming selection for love, sex, and everything in between. A perfectly-adult-softspot-hitting cover of a teenage prom favorite. And the finale's chord change and original additions are musical genius.

French Fries - "Machine"

For everything else, there's this track.
