When we heard that the Red Bull Music Academy planned on returning to New York yearly for a festival that mirrored the events of their RBMA series from 2013, we were ecstatic. They have such a dope eye for bringing interesting, eclectic talent together that curating these events is always a beautiful thing for the music scene. When we caught wind of the lineup, our jaws immediately dropped to the floor. It was a great mixture of the past, present, and future, with themed nights and events galore. May is going to be the truth.
The 2014 Red Bull Music Academy Festival New York will kick off with the Bounce Ballroom, a night that should not be slept-on, and could actually educate on great dance music and great dancing. See, this event is divided into four ill DJs spinning four different styles of music and paying tribute to four different local styles of dance. On the bill is Bobby Konders, who many of you know as the voice behind the Massive B sound system, will be dropping beats for the "bruk up / flexing" dancers, while MikeQ will represent for the "voguing" section. DJ Sliink and Mike Gip are doing what they do best, representing for the Jersey club scene, and the legendary Todd Terry will be in full effect for the "housing" contingent.
For all of you who hate the term "EDM" and just want to call it "dance music," this is the night you need to hit, as from what we're hearing, the emphasis on DANCE is just as important as the beats that are moving their feet.
